HAMILTON RAISES OVER £1000 FOR PARKINSON’S UK
Friday, 15 Apr, 2016
This year, Steve Edwards, managing director of Hamilton, will run the London Marathon as a representative of Parkinson’s UK. Steve’s intense training programme started last Summer and is now in the zone to break all records on Sunday 24 April.
On Friday 8 April, Hamilton employees joined Steve in our local Sainsbury’s (Attleborough, Norfolk) as he and the Hamilton team ran 2 marathons to help raise support, and more importantly, awareness for Parkinson’s UK.
52 Miles, 1 treadmill and 1 team – It was a long Friday for some!
The tactic was simple. Steve, in preparation for London, would run a full marathon and the rest of the team would jump in and make up the other 26. It was a relay effort, Steve ran a mile, we either ran, walked or crawled a mile, Steve ran a mile.. You get the picture.
After setting up the banners, balloons, information and most importantly, the treadmill, the first mile began at 8:30am and the 52nd mile was completed by Steve at 7:20PM.
Throughout the day, we were overwhelmed by the support and generosity of the Sainsbury’s shoppers. After tallying up the donations on the day, over £1,000 had been raised, far surpassing expectations. The money raised will be added to Steve’s marathon fundraising effort, which will bring it up to nearly £2,200.
Parkinson’s UK is Hamilton’s employee elected charity for 2016, following on from last year. Parkinson’s is a condition that has not only affected family members of Hamilton employees, but also one of our colleagues, making it a charity close to our hearts.
