Paint has changed.
The tools you use must change along with it.

As paint technology continues to evolve, with burgeoning developments in hybrids and recycled coatings, it is time to take a long, hard look at the tools we use to apply them. In essence, the formula for creating a paint brush hasn’t changed for many years – if this remains the case, how can we be sure we’re using tools that innovate in the same way that today’s paints have?

At Hamilton we have been taking giant steps in the development of painting tools for over 270 years.

1856

In 1856 we established the patents for improving ferrules and fixings that steered towards the brushes we all use today.

1890

During the 1890’s the materials and technology we used to produce brushes surpassed what was available in the market and revolutionised the painting brush trade.

1900

In 1900 we brought the vulcanised rubber process to the UK – now considered “the most important breakthrough” in the manufacture of paint brushes.

1955

In 1955 we merged with Star Brush Company to launch the first DIY brush range.

1960

The 1960’s saw us lead the development of specialist epoxy resins – resistant to chemicals and thus perfect for brushes.

1980

In the 1980’s we then pioneered the introduction of stainless-steel ferrules – this transformed ‘the paint brush’ into the product we know and use today.

With all this history of innovation and leadership, we know that we are the brand that painters and decorators look to for quality, durability and, most importantly, suitability for the job at hand.

For Hamilton and for our users…. Everything has changed, but nothing has changed.

What we mean by this is that we are keeping the Hamilton formulas that you know and rely upon, and perfectly combining them with brand new technology to ensure our products are transformed just enough to be the products you need to work with today’s paints.

We are also drastically reducing our use of single-use plastic packaging whilst all our wooden handles will now be FSC® Certified.

We’ve had a makeover! Our brand has changed – a new look, 3 colours representing our 3 ranges (Perfection, Prestige and For The Trade).  You’ll recognise us as soon as you walk in-store.

Finally, our already well-loved For The Trade range allows us to welcome the multi-skilled trades into the fold, alongside our heartland of the expert painter and decorator.

Our most notable achievement is the introduction of our CleanEdge™ technology.

With paint formulations continuously evolving, we know that one brush does not suit all.  That’s why we have developed this brand new filament to sit alongside our well-established MaxStroke™ filament in our top level Perfection range.

What does this mean to our users?
They will be able to choose the right brush, for the right paint, for the right job – every time. Our Perfection CleanEdge™ brush selection has replaced natural bristle completely.  We understand that this is a tough pill to swallow for hardened bristle lovers, however, the quality of such natural animal-borne bi-product is constantly declining.  This decline means that our strive to deliver the best quality products will be hindered, and at Hamilton, we will not let that happen.

Our new CleanEdge™ filaments have been tested in laboratory conditions, by third party bodies, by well-known UK paint manufacturers and, more importantly, in the hands of real users and the performance surpasses that of natural bristle.  In fact, we have ultimately developed a synthetic brush to mimic the structure of natural bristle, outperform it and that has the benefits of being easier to clean, with no need to break in.  Who else other than Hamilton, would deliver such innovation?  We look forward to our users having it in their hands.

Choose Perfection MaxStroke™ with longer, finer filaments for a flawless finish with low viscosity paints (thinner and more fluid), and choose new Perfection CleanEdge™ with shorter, stiffer filaments for accuracy and control with high-viscosity (thicker, stickier) paints..

Our market-leading roller sleeves remain unchanged.  They outperform many other sleeves on the market, and after testing with modern paints, we decided that it’s hard to improve on perfection! Our tools are also much-loved – we have some additions to the range, but the formula remains as is.

We hope you will continue to enjoy using Hamilton Decorating Tools as you always have, even more so following our makeover.  You can easily choose the right tools for you based on skill level, paint, surface and preference.
