Going the whole hog on paintbrush design

DEVELOPED-IN-THE-PAST
It’s no secret that paint and other coating technology has evolved over the years as manufacturers continue to strive to reduce their carbon footprint and provide customers with products they can consistently count on. But what about the tools that are used to apply paint and other coatings?

Generally speaking, the range of painting tools available to professional decorators has expanded over the years. However, the level of innovation has remained somewhat modest… …until now.

As industry leaders, we’re no strangers to pushing the boundaries. More than four years of cutting-edge research and development in our facilities in the Midlands and Sweden have resulted in the creation something incredibly special – high performance brushes that deliver for every application, stroke-after-stroke.

BRISTLE-SYN

‘Bye, bye’ natural bristles

Take just one look at our Perfection CleanEdge™ and MaxStroke™ brushes, and you’ll notice their lack of natural bristle.

While natural bristle may still be a tool of choice for a smaller number of decorators, the reality is that the quality and availability of this animal-borne bi-product is rapidly declining due to climate change. To add to this, natural bristle is prone to shedding, and while it may work well with oil-based paints, it’s less compatible with water and chemical-based paints.

‘Hello’ synthetic filaments

Keen not to lose the structure of natural bristle, we’ve made sure our Perfection CleanEdge™ range of brushes incorporates synthetic bristles that have been designed to mimic and outperform natural bristle. These synthetic filaments are easier to clean and don’t need to be broken in.

Striking the right balance between tradition and innovation

Extensive testing enabled us to achieve the right balance between tradition and innovation – the new CleanEdge™ filaments have been tested in laboratory conditions, as well as by third party bodies, well-known paint manufacturers and, more importantly, professional decorators. All of the tests confirmed an increase in performance compared with natural bristle.

One range, two Perfection-orientated brushes

High viscosity paints are renowned for delivering improved coverage and levelling, enhanced adhesion. But not all painting tools are designed to work with thicker, more viscous coatings. Many of them, such as our Perfection MaxStroke™ brushes, are made with longer, finer filaments that are more suited to thinner, low viscosity paints.

In comparison, our Perfection CleanEdge™ brushes go hand-in-hand with high viscosity painting applications. They feature stiffer, flagged tips that can be activated straight out of the packet. Combined with our innovative filament mix, thicker paints can be applied and a clean edge achieved with minimal effort for a superior finish.

Always looking ahead

Not only do our Perfection CleanEdge™ brushes feature synthetic filaments instead of natural bristles, they are housed in card packaging. Single-use plastic has been replaced by recyclable card, while only FSC® Certified wood is used in the handle design.

Paint and coating formulations and trends will continue to innovate, set to only accelerate as technological developments become more advanced. We will continue to remain one step ahead of these changes in our quest to provide professional decorators with a premium brush solution that delivers our unrivalled Hamilton finish.
